It might sound like a lot, but that’s a small number when compared to more than 2k author applications our team processed.

Contracting Process

Our contracting process is unbiased and streamlined, as we focus on delivering excellence without compromise.

Every contract application is reviewed by at least two content editors independently who are assessing the quality of the novel with the goal to produce a yes or no recommendation for contracting that novel.

Content editors will start by looking at the novel’s cover, title, and synopsis. These 3 attract readers. They need to match the story. The synopsis needs to be tight, error-free, and have a hook.

Next, our content editors will be looking at the chapters.

Common issues flagged are plot holes, typos, capitalization, and punctuation errors, repetition, filler words, and switching tenses, genders, and pronouns.

Not all of them are deal-breakers on their own. If it happens once or twice, it might be a typo. But if an issue occurs more frequently, our content editors will flag it as a worrisome issue.

When the final feedback document has many issues listed, it means that the author either lacks necessary skills to write stories in English language to meet MFR’s quality bar, or the author doesn’t care to edit their work properly. In any case, this wouldn’t be an author whose works MFR wants to host.

Small things like a proper novel title capitalization and naming chapters show that the author cares.

Potential outcomes of contract reviews by two content editors are:

• No + No = No
• Yes + Yes = Yes
• No + Yes = A third CE will review the novel with the role of a tiebreaker.

A novel needs to have two YES recommendations in order to be contracted.

Some believe that our contracting process is strict. However, as the digital landscape we are part of is evolving, we remain steadfast, proving that our focus on Quality over Quantity is the right way to go.
