PROMOTIONS

  • Non-exclusively contracted books can get promotions on the app and on our social media;
  • Exclusively contracted books can get promotions on the app, on our social media, and paid external ads.

We have a queue for promotions that gets updated when:

  • a novel is contracted,
  • on every 50 chapters published, and
  • when the novel is completed.

Exclusive books can earn guaranteed promotions on top of these.

Exclusive books will get a professional video book trailer when they reach 100 published chapters. You can see what we did so far on our YouTube channel.

EXTRA PROMOTIONS (EXCLUSIVE ONLY)
What do we consider regular updates?
When a book was updated 22+ days with a word count exceeding 45k words for newly published content during that month.

If your exclusively contracted book is regularly updated, it will earn the following promotions:

1st month:
= 1000 coins on the author’s balance (available in the My Fans tab);
= library featured (one day).

2nd month:
= promotions from the 1st month;
= weekly featured in the app (one week on a carousel);
= promotion on our social media;

3rd month:
= promotions from the 2nd month;
= splash screen promo –> added to the rotation with trending books (one month duration);
= book reviews on various blogs/sites that focus on romance novels. Limit: once per book even if you hit 3rd month several times.

4th month:
= promotions from the 3rd month (without the book reviews on blogs/sites), and
= paid ads on FB/IG/Google.

4+ month: the same promos as for the 4th month.

Note: if an author fails to regularly update the novel with the status of stacked promotions >0, the stacked promotions will reset to 0.

AUTHOR’S LEVELS

New authors who onboard our platform start with level 1.

Levels add % of income on top of what’s stated in the contract for all contracted books by that author.

  • Level 1 => +0% on income
  • Level 2 => +3% on income
  • Level 3 => +6% on income
  • Level 4 => +9% on income
  • Level 5 => +12% on income

PERFORMANCE REWARDS

Every 6 months, we review the performance of novels (end of June and December).
We want to reward authors who trust us with hosting their work, and who are delivering their best writing while maintaining steady updates until the novel is completed.
Think of it like an employee performance review in the company.

We will be evaluating books in terms of retaining readers, positive comments/reviews, income, regular updates, and the author’s interaction with readers.

The authors of top-ranked books will be rewarded with:
– Coins to share with readers and/or cash bonus,
– Level-up (if applicable), and
– Extra promotions on selected novels.
MFR reserves the right to give some or all of the above-listed rewards, based on the author’s performance.

The author’s level might drop if:
– their book is not doing well and readers are dropping it,
– their book is on a prolonged hiatus,
– they go a year+ without contracting a new book with the MFR, and
– they violate our policies and contracts.

MFR reserves the right to increase/decrease author’s level outside performance reviews if the need arises.

Note: the author’s level can’t go lower than level 1, and income % won’t go below what’s stated in the contract. Good performance of novels can grant an extra % on income and perks like promotions.

COVER CREATION (EXCLUSIVE ONLY)

At the MFR, we offer assistance in creating covers for exclusively contracted novels!

Reach out to staff regarding your cover after your exclusive contract has been approved.

We will expect you to tell us about your story and what elements you want on the cover. This will help our designer create something according to your vision of the story. It’s a mix of AI, stock photos, and Photoshop.

Note: These covers can be used only on the MFR platform.

When your exclusive contract expires and you decide to post that book elsewhere, you will need to use a different cover on other platforms.

EARLY PAPERBACK LICENSE (EXCLUSIVE ONLY)

2 years after your exclusively contracted novel was completed on the MFR platform, you have the right to request MFR to publish a paperback.
If we refuse, you will get licensing rights to your paperback ONLY. In this case, we will re-sign your contract in a way that shows MFR doesn’t have paperback licensing to your exclusively contracted novel.

What does this mean?
It means that you can publish a paperback at your own expense and you keep 100% of the profit. MFR will have no part in it.
Does it come with conditions attached? One: you will need to put in your book (paperback) that an e-version of that novel is available on the MFR platform.

MONTHLY TOP-UP BONUS (MTB — EXCLUSIVE ONLY)

What is MTB?
Once you sign an exclusive contract with the MFR, the next calendar month makes you eligible for the MTB.

Conditions for MTB:
1: the novel needs to be exclusively contracted,
2: the novel needs to have regular updates for that month (45k words, 22 days of publishing chapters), and
3: the author’s income for that novel (unlocks+gifts+VIP) needs to be $40+ for that month.

There are four levels of MTB based on the income of the novel.
If your monthly income for that book is:
= less than $40, you don’t qualify for bonus,
= $40+ and less than $80, MFR will top up your income for that novel to $100,
= $80+ and less than $120, MFR will top up your income for that novel to $150,
= $120+, MFR will add $100 to your income for that novel.

MTB will be valid for four months. E.g. If you sign a contract in January 2025, your book will be eligible for MTB in February, March, April, and May 2025.

MTB will be paid on the month it was achieved. E.g. if your February income from unlocks+gifts+VIP was $98.62 (no carryover from previous months), and you’ve met other MTB criteria, your February income for that novel will be $150.

WHAT GOES INTO THE CHAPTER — AND WHAT DOESN’T BELONG THERE

Copyright info, shout-outs, explanations, info about your other works, your personal matters, and whatever is not part of the story SHOULDN’T be part of your chapters.

If you want to add a note or a personal touch, use the author’s notes. This section is available for every chapter and doesn’t impact the chapter’s word count. However, even AN shouldn’t be used for things that are not relevant to your book.

The only thing acceptable in chapters are disclaimers. Make them brief. Here is an example: Trigger warning: assault.

Content that repeats senselessly is a NO. There is value when you show a scene from different POVs but only if you provide additional information. If a sentence/paragraph repeats without bringing value, it’s duplicate content.

Readers are paying per word count and they don’t want to pay for stuff that’s duplicated or unrelated to the novel. It doesn’t matter if it tips the price to the next coin. For them, it’s extra.

If your chapter 1 starts with a disclaimer, it’s a turn-off for the readers.

If your last paragraph of chapter 10 is the first paragraph of chapter 11, it’s duplicate and unnecessary.

If we see this content, we will warn you to remove it, and failure to do so will cause a penalty. If it’s in one place, we will assume it appears elsewhere.

We DON’T allow links and mentioning other platforms within your chapters, author’s notes, synopsis, and author’s bio.
No publishing app will allow their authors to redirect readers elsewhere. We are not an exception.

You CAN say in your author’s notes: follow me on social media, links are on my author’s page.

Offending authors will be penalized — it is part of the contracts. Penalty can include withholding promotions, freezing payments, and canceling contracts.

ABOUT AI ON THE MFR

At MFR, we allow authors to use AI as a help in their writing. Tools like Grammarly and ProWritingAid are AI-driven and they are fantastic tools that can help you quickly spot typos and issues with capitalization, punctuation, and swapping tenses.
However, we make difference between AI-assisted and AI-written.

AI-assisted:

  • you used tools like Grammarly to help you edit and error-check your work.
  • you used tools like ChatGPT to discuss the plotline and bounce ideas, but you wrote the text yourself.

AI-generated:

  • you used an AI-based tool to create the actual content.
  • you used an AI-based tool to paraphrase the text you wrote to the point where your unique voice as an author has been lost.

How do we check if the tool was written by the AI?

= the text reads monotonously, with little variation in sentence structure or length
= too many adjectives (often at least two per verb and noun)
= sentences are not propelling the story forward and it feels like it’s going in circles when describing something (repetition!)
= the text has predictable, generic word choices and little to no surprises
= overly polite language: chatbots like Gemini are designed to play the role of a helpful assistant, so their language is very polite and formal
= hedging language – used to express ambiguity and indecisiveness. Look for overuse of: perhaps, seem, tend, look like, appear to be, think, believe.
= logical errors: AI writing, although it’s fluent, may not always be coherent in terms of its actual content. Look for points where the text contradicts itself, makes an implausible statement, or presents disjointed arguments.

In addition to checking the points mentioned above while reviewing novels, our CEs also use various tools to check for AI-generated content.

Every author knows how much they are relying on AI tools when writing. If you’re worried if your book will be flagged as AI-generated, post a snippet here and see what the result is.

Q: Why these measures?
A: Because AI-generated content can’t be copyrighted.
Q: What does that mean?
A: AI-generated content is considered public domain.
It doesn’t matter if you came up with the idea for the plot line — you can’t copyright an idea. If you didn’t write it, it’s not yours.

MFR’s REFERRAL PROGRAM
Tell your author-friends to contract their books with us, and you will be eligible for the referral bonus.

How does this work?

When they apply to be an MFR author, they need to put your pen name in the field How did you hear about MFR?
When they sign their first contract with the MFR (exclusive or non-exclusive), you will receive on your income a bonus of:
= +$50, if the author in question has a novel with more than 1 million views on another platform that’s pay-to-read, or
= +$20, otherwise.

HIATUS

Ongoing novels have information on the rate of updates with possible values:

  • Recently Updated = Last update was <7 days
  • Hiatus = 3+ months without updates

This status shows automatically in the app.

Books with prolonged regular updates rate will have higher chances of getting promotions.

Our expectation is that every newly contracted novel will have at least a regular update rate until completion. One chapter per week shouldn’t be too much regardless of what’s going on in the author’s life. We understand that life comes in the way and things happen. We won’t penalize authors if their book goes a week+ without updates.

If a novel goes 8-90 days without updates, it won’t have update information shown. MFR will take action for novels that are in hiatus.

  • Novels in hiatus won’t show in search results and won’t be promoted even if CEs marked it for promotions due to its quality.
  • If the hiatus is prolonged, the author’s level might drop.

We want to be understanding, and we hope the authors will understand us too. Our goal is to market these wonderful books and put them in front of readers so we can all make money, but we can’t do that if the book is not updated to completion.

For the books on hiatus, our staff will reach out to the authors to see what’s going on and to discuss options. If the authors don’t collaborate with our staff and books remain incomplete, we will be freezing their promotions and income until updates are resumed.

Q: How to get out of hiatus?
A: Publish a chapter. It’s that simple.

You should also keep in mind that:

  • New readers will be reluctant to pick up your book if it’s not updated regularly.
  • Existing readers might drop your book if you don’t update it for a long time.

We want to thank all authors who provided their valuable feedback which helped us shape our policies so they are fair to the authors and to the MFR while keeping readers’ interests in mind.
